Metlox Manufacturing Company
The Metlox Manufacturing Company was found in 1927 by Willis and T.C. Prouty when they became interested in producing the ceramic portion of neon signs. The company was incorporated in the state of California in 1933.
Willis Prounty was responsible for the "Poppy Trail" line that was introduced in 1934. He is also credited with patenting several machines that increased the speed and lowered the cost of production.
Metlox did not contribute very much in the way of dinnerware until 1947 when Evan K. Shaw and Robert L. Peaslee purchased controlling interest and reorganized the company. They were very concerned with "originality in design " .
They designed many different patterns including such as "California Provincial, California Strawberry, California Ivy, Red Rooster, Rose, Homestead, Provincial Blue, Vernon Tulip, Floralace, and Vineyard."
The company incorporation was terminated on January 4, 1988.
